Appearance
Adjust PixPin appearance settings for themes, fonts, colors, tray icons, toolbar size, dialogs, and screenshot borders on Windows and macOS.
The Appearance page adjusts PixPin's colors, font, and toolbar size, and can make screenshot selections easier to see. It contains two groups, Appearance and Screenshot, described below.
Open the PixPin menu in the Windows system tray or macOS menu bar, choose Configuration, then select Appearance on the left.
Appearance
Theme mode and font
- Theme Mode: choose Light mode, Dark mode, or Follow the system, the default. Select a fixed mode to keep the same light or dark appearance.
- Theme Font: selects an interface font installed on your computer and refreshes the interface. This affects buttons, menus, and other interface text. Set the annotation font in the text tool.
Fonts differ by platform. Windows prefers the Microsoft YaHei family by default; macOS prefers fonts such as Helvetica Neue. The actual default and list depend on installed fonts, so two devices may show different lists.
What the four colors affect
Click Change Color beside an option to choose its color. Each has a separate purpose:
| Option | Effect and default color |
|---|---|
| Theme Color | The interface accent color, blue by default. Also used for selection borders set to Follow theme |
| Lock Pin Color | The border of a focused, locked pin, orange by default, making its lock state recognizable |
| Unselected Area Color When Screenshot | The mask outside the screenshot selection, translucent black by default, separating the capture area from its surroundings |
| Shadow On Mouse Penetration | The edge indicator for a pin with click-through enabled, translucent green by default. Click-through color takes priority when the pin is also locked |
These colors indicate interface states; they do not tint image content. The locked-pin and click-through colors do not enable those features for you.
Tray icon and toolbar size
Tray Icon changes the PixPin icon in the Windows system tray or macOS menu bar, with four choices:
- Auto: the default. Windows selects a black or white icon according to the taskbar theme; macOS adapts it to the menu bar through the system.
- Color PixPin icon: select the radio button to the left of the color app icon to use the original icon. This choice is represented by the icon without a text label.
- Custom color: select the radio button to the left of the color button, then click Change Color to set a monochrome icon color.
- Hide: hides the icon after confirmation. To restore it, open Configuration from a pin's context menu, return here, and select another mode.
Toolbar Icon Size offers Small, Medium, and Large, defaulting to medium. Increase it if screenshot and annotation buttons are hard to click; decrease it to save space.
Color and save dialogs
| Option | Usage and platform differences |
|---|---|
| Color selection box style | Windows only. Choose Classic or Modern, the default, to set the color picker window style. macOS has no equivalent switch |
| Save dialog style | Windows and macOS. Defaults to Modern, with image preview, dimensions, and format settings. Classic uses the system file save dialog, whose appearance depends on the operating system |
Switching to the classic dialog from the modern image save window also changes this setting to classic. Return here and select modern to restore it.
Screenshot
This group controls screenshot selection borders and indicators. Both platforms offer all four options.
| Option | Usage |
|---|---|
| Selection border width | Defaults to 4 pixels, range 0–20. A thicker border is easier to see. Set 0 to hide the ordinary border; anchors are controlled separately below |
| Selection border color | Defaults to Follow theme. For a separate color, select the radio button to the left of Change Color, then choose a color. Select follow theme again to use the theme color |
| Anchor point display | Defaults to Show eight directions: four corners and four edge midpoints. Show four directions keeps only the corners; Disable hides anchors |
| Show selection box switching animation | On by default. During automatic preselection, the box moves smoothly between detected windows or interface areas under the mouse. Turn it off for immediate changes |
Borders and anchors are independent: hiding anchors does not hide the border. With border width 0, very small rounded selections may still retain a 1-pixel border to identify the area.
Restore defaults
Click Restore Default at the bottom and confirm to reset both groups on this page. Restore All Default also affects other settings pages; choose as needed.
