Custom and delayed screenshots
Set a fixed screenshot size or position in PixPin, reuse your last capture region, add a delay, and create or manage presets for frequent captures.
Regular screenshots require selecting a region manually each time. Use custom screenshots when you need an image of a fixed size, such as a social media cover, want to capture the same position repeatedly, or need to wait for a menu to open before capturing.
Open custom screenshot
Press Alt+1⌥ Option+1 to open the Custom screenshot window. Choosing Delayed screenshot on the floating ball also opens it.
The window has three parts:
- Screenshot presets: Choose predefined dimensions or the last capture region.
- Screenshot parameters: Set the size, position, and delay.
- Start: Begin capturing with those settings.
Fixed size
Check Use fixed screenshot size and enter the dimensions in Width × Height, in pixels.
Click Start. The selection already has the specified size when capture begins. Drag it to the position you need.
Copy, pin, or save as usual.
- Lock aspect ratio: When enabled, changing the width adjusts the height proportionally, and vice versa.
- Swap width and height: Swap the two values with one click to switch between landscape and portrait.
If the specified size is larger than the screen, PixPin scales the selection down proportionally so that it fits entirely on the screen.
Fixed position
Check Use fixed screenshot position and enter the coordinates (X, Y) of the selection's top-left corner. With both fixed size and fixed position set, clicking Start selects that region directly. This is useful for capturing the same location every day, such as a chart in a report.
Reuse the last capture region
Choose Last capture region under Screenshot presets. PixPin fills in the position and size from your previous screenshot. During a regular screenshot, you can also press RR to switch to a previous capture region. See Basic screenshots.
Delayed screenshot
Some content appears only when you hover over something or open a menu, and disappears when you press the screenshot shortcut. Use a delayed screenshot in this situation:
Choose a waiting time under Screenshot delay: no delay, 0.5 seconds, 1 second, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, or 60 seconds.
Click Start. A countdown appears on the screen.
Before the countdown ends, open the menu or move the pointer to where the content should appear. Capture begins automatically when the countdown ends.
Screenshot presets
Save frequently used dimensions as presets to select them directly next time. PixPin includes a set of common sizes:
| Preset | Size | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Social post (square) | 1080 × 1080 (1:1) | Images for Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn |
| Social post (portrait) | 1080 × 1350 (4:5) | Portrait images for Instagram and Facebook feeds |
| Stories / short video | 1080 × 1920 (9:16) | Stories, Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts |
| Social post (landscape) | 1200 × 628 (1.91:1) | Landscape images for X and LinkedIn posts |
| Full HD video | 1920 × 1080 (16:9) | YouTube and general-purpose video |
| Action | Method |
|---|---|
| Select a preset | Choose it from the Screenshot presets drop-down menu. Its parameters are filled in automatically. |
| Create a preset | Set the size, position, or delay, choose Add to preset list under Screenshot presets, then enter a title and an optional description and save. You can also click + New in the Manage presets window. |
| Edit a preset | Choose Manage preset list under Screenshot presets to open Manage presets. Select a preset, change its title, description, and parameters, then click Save. |
| Duplicate a preset | Select a preset in Manage presets and click Duplicate. A new preset named Original name Copy is created, useful for making small changes to an existing preset. |
| Delete a preset | Select a preset and click Delete. |
| Restore defaults | Click Restore default presets. This deletes all custom presets and cannot be undone. |
To save a preset, you must set at least a fixed size or a fixed position.
