Formula pins

Render copied LaTeX as a sharp mathematical formula on your screen, copy it as LaTeX or MathML, and export it as SVG or an editable Word formula.

A formula pin renders LaTeX code as a typeset mathematical formula. Copy LaTeX from a paper, webpage, or AI conversation and pin it to see the formula immediately. It stays sharp when enlarged.

Pinned LaTeX becomes a typeset formula that you can export as SVG, MathML, or a Word equation.

Create a formula pin

Copy LaTeX formula code, such as $\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}$, and press Ctrl+2⌃ Control+2.

You can also use formula recognition during a screenshot to convert an image formula to LaTeX, copy the result, and press Ctrl+2⌃ Control+2 to create a formula pin.

Text recognized as a formula

Copied text creates a formula pin if it meets either condition below and can be rendered successfully:

  • It is enclosed in formula delimiters: $...$, $$...$$, \(...\), \[...\], or a \begin{...}...\end{...} environment.
  • It has no delimiters but contains LaTeX commands such as \frac, \sum, or \alpha, and all its commands are common mathematical symbol commands.

The formula must also be no more than 2,000 characters. Text resembling a Windows file path, such as C:\Users\..., is not treated as a formula. Text that does not qualify or fails to render becomes a text pin.

Copy and export

Right-click a formula pin:

Menu itemAction
Copy as LaTeX codeCopies the formula's LaTeX source code.
Copy as MathML formulaConverts to MathML and copies it for pasting into editors or webpages that support MathML.
Open Word documentCreates and opens a Word document containing the formula as an editable Word equation, ready to copy into your own document.
Save as SVGSaves the formula as an SVG vector image that stays sharp when enlarged, suitable for presentations and webpages.

The document generated by “Open Word document” is saved in a temporary folder. If no app can open .docx files, it cannot open automatically, and PixPin tells you that the document was saved in the temporary folder.
