Watermark

Find watermarks in the Text submenu, enter text or time, choose tiled or fixed positions, style the text, and enable automatic watermarking for screenshots.

Add a watermark such as “Draft,” a source note, or a date and time to keep that information in a shared image. Repeat the text diagonally across the image or display it once in a corner or at the center.

Find watermarks in the submenu

In the default layout, “Watermark” is in the “Text” submenu. Click the small angled arrow to the right of the text tool to see “Text” and “Watermark.”

Open the small arrow beside Text, then choose Watermark. Adjust at bottom right can move it to the top level.

For a screenshot, select an area first. On an image pin, press SpaceSpace to show the annotation toolbar. Expand the menu and choose “Watermark” to show its input field and style controls below.

You can also use the default shortcut Shift+-⇧ Shift+-: hold Shift and press the minus key.

Its position changes if you customize the toolbar layout. For frequent use, click “Adjust” at the bottom right of the menu to move it to the top level. See Manage button order and levels.

Enter text and preview changes

Watermarks are managed together in the toolbar. You do not need to click the image to place text or drag out a text box.

Click “Input watermark” at the far left of the style bar to open the input dialog. If a watermark exists, click its text in the field to edit it again.

Enter the watermark text; the image updates as you type. Press EnterEnter for a new line, such as a purpose on the first line and a date on the second.

Click “Apply” to keep the text. To discard this edit, click “Cancel” to restore the text from before the dialog opened.

Choosing Date inserts the format; the image shows the actual date. Enter new lines as needed. Apply keeps the text; Cancel restores the original.

The toolbar shortens long or multiline text; the full text remains in the input dialog. PixPin remembers watermark text and styles for the next time you choose the tool.

Insert a date and time

The bottom of the dialog has “Time:” and a format button with a dropdown arrow. On first use it shows ISO 24h; after choosing another format, it remembers that choice.

  • Click the small arrow on the button's right and choose a format to insert it at the cursor.
  • Click the main part of the button to insert the currently selected format.

Common formats include Date for the date, Time for a 24-hour time, and ISO 24h for the full date and time. Choosing Date, for example, inserts $yyyy-MM-dd$ in the input, while the image shows the actual date.

Time formats are evaluated using the current time when the watermark text or style changes and its display is regenerated. To keep a fixed date, type the date as plain text.

Choose position, spacing, and appearance

The “Position” dropdown defaults to “Tile,” repeating text diagonally across the current image area. To show the watermark only once, choose any of the four corners, “TopCenter,” “BottomCenter,” or “Center.” Fixed positions display text horizontally.

Hover over the “Watermark Style” icon to the right of the position dropdown to open its popup.

  • Bottom rightKeep the note in a corner.
  • Top centerCenter it along the image’s top edge.
  • CenterShow it once in the image center.
Hover over Watermark Style to adjust. Opacity is 70 here for clarity, default 30. Fixed positions hide spacing in the popup.
What to adjustAction and effect
Watermark darknessAdjust “Opacity” from 10–100, default 30; lower values make it lighter
Text sizeAdjust “Size” from 8–80, default 18
Tiling densityAdjust “Spacing” from 0–100, default 20; larger values leave more space between repeated text
Text colorChoose a color in the palette at the bottom of the popup
StrokeClick “Outline” in the style bar to add an automatically colored stroke around the text; click again to turn it off
FontChoose an available local font in the dropdown at the far right of the style bar

“Spacing” appears in the popup only for tiled mode. Switch to a fixed position and reopen the popup to hide it.

Watermarks in one image use one group of settings. You cannot select and drag an individual piece of text. Change placement with the position dropdown and content by reopening the input dialog.

Add watermarks to later screenshots automatically

Enter the watermark to reuse and check its text and style. Then enable “Automatically add watermark when taking screenshot” in “Annotation” → “Watermark” settings. This option is off by default.

When enabled, a new screenshot automatically receives the saved watermark after its selection is completed and the toolbar appears. No watermark is added if the text is empty.

Turn the option off when no longer needed. It controls later screenshots; remove a watermark from the current image as described below.

Clear watermarks and undo changes

Switch to the watermark tool and click “Clear Watermark” to the right of the input field. This removes all watermarks in the current image and clears the saved text. Alternatively, open the input dialog, delete all text, and click “Apply.”

If you clear it accidentally or dislike a style adjustment, close the input dialog, then press Ctrl+Z⌘ Command+Z to undo. To edit a restored watermark, switch back to the watermark tool to load its text and style. See Annotation basics for redo and other general operations.
